Casita was a brief residential project. Casita comes from the Spanish word for home, the -ita modifier signifies something that is small or familial,  for example growing up my relatives called me Axelito. I wanted la Casita to have the same kind of familial ethos about it. The project started with the idea of two spheres; the social and the residential. These halves were informed by Latin American family life and the importance placed on extended family. The social sphere or the pavilion being the place to entertain family to come together to watch a game or share a meal or relax on the back porch.  The residential sphere or the base serving as a more quiet reserved space.

The pavilion, the living room and kitchen space for the family to come together.

The stairway of la Casita is filled by natural light filtering through the glass block tower that defines the façade.

The bedroom, nestled in the base, glows with light from the outside while maintaining privacy via the glass blocks.
